Pumpin’ and Plankin’

Guys, holiday weekends are the best. I don’t know why ONE extra day seems so amazing, but it really, truly does. It’s like a whole world of possibilities are open for that extra 24 hours of freedom. It’s wonderful!

Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way?

Needless-to-say, I’m thoroughly enjoying my long weekend. And I’m continuing that enjoyment in to today.

So even though it’s still technically my weekend, I thought I’d go ahead and recap things so far for you anyway!

Friday

Thanks to the holiday weekend, I actually got to get out a bit early on Friday afternoon from work (I told you, these holiday weekends are the BEST!) That extra hour and a half actually made a ton of difference – I was able to get home early, clean the house for bible study, and spend an hour relaxing on the couch.

Chris even got major husband bonus points for coming home with flowers and sushi to celebrate our 5 year dating anniversary. (I know, I know – it’s weird that we still celebrate dating anniversaries when we’re married. But 5 years seemed like a big one, and one worth celebrating!)

Around 6:30, a bunch of our friends came over for bible study, and proceeded to hang out until 10pm. I love our group, and we had a whole bunch of new people tonight so it was so much fun to meet new people! Definitely a fun way to spend our Friday evening.

The rest of the night was spent catching up on shows on our DVR. We’re so behind!!

Saturday

Chris was up early on Saturday morning to help out a friend, so I decided that I might as well get up at a reasonable time as well.

First up, I headed to the gym for a BodyPump class. It’s the first time I’ve been to BodyPump in like 2 weeks thanks to the gym being insanely crowded, but thankfully this class seems to have gone back to its normal Saturday morning size.

I will be honest and say that I don’t LOVE this new release (any avid Bodypumpers out there? What do you think?), but it was still nice to be back in class. Nothing kicks my butt quite like BodyPump!

I also paired it with 20 minutes of intervals on the elliptical, while reading Fitness magazine (Oh, Hi Courtney!)

Post-gym I made a Costco run to pick up a few things (and snack on a few samples, let’s be real here) before heading back home to get some household things done. Which include about 5 loads of laundry. It was kind of insane.

Since we didn’t really get to celebrate our anniversary on Friday night, we decided to check out a new-to-me restaurant in Fredericksburg: Ristorante Renato. It also happens to be Restaurant week in Fredericksburg right now, so we got try a ton of different things!

I started out with the Mozzarella Carozza- Homemade bread and mozzarella cheese baked in a white wine lemon butter sauce.

For the main course I chose the Tilapia with Crabmeat-Sautéed in a white wine and lemon butter sauce; served with broccoli.

And for dessert I had the New York Style Cheesecake -with raspberry sauce

Overall the meal was delicious. I did kind of regret my tilapia decision, only because I kind of doubled up on the white wine lemon butter sauce. But otherwise everything was amazing. Chris and I ended up splitting most of our dessert too, just so we could each try some (he got a cannoli)!

The rest of the evening was spent on the couch, marathoning some Veronica Mars. I’m determined to have us get through all 3 seasons before the movie comes out in March! Any other diehard Veronica Mars fans out there?

Sunday

I had every intention of getting up early on Sunday morning, but somehow managed to turn my alarm off and wake up around 9:45. Whoops! Guess my body needed some more sleep to fight off this cold I’m still dealing with!

I started out the morning with some scrambled eggs with onion, peppers, and salsa, and some toast with pear butter while catching up on some TV and deciding my plans for the day. Eventually I got my butt in gear and got myself (and Chris) to the gym where we did about 15 minutes of cardio and a CXWorks class. I forgot how much I love this class. And by love, I mean love/die. It’s such a killer – especially all of those planks!!

During CX I also was able to try out my new Armour39 Heart Rate monitor which I’m going to review for you all soon! Side note: It makes me feel like Iron Man.

Post-gym we headed out on some errands, before finally making it home for lunch around 2pm. Lunch was kind of thrown together out of hunger, and included some chicken BBQ and an apple. Random, but it worked.

The rest of Sunday was basically spent doing our usual routine: Church and dinner with the in-laws. Since we weren’t rushing to get home that night, we decided to break out the board games after dinner. Yesterday’s game was “Ticket to Ride” – has anyone else every played it? We just learned how to play it, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite games!

I don’t really know how to explain the game, other than that it’s a bit like risk – you’re trying to take over train routes. But it’s really fun, and (at least when we play) we get really into it! I highly recommend it if you like board games like we do!

Well there you have it – my busy but awesome holiday weekend! I hope you all are enjoying your holiday (especially those who get the day off like me!) Now if only we could get a snow day tomorrow, that would be awesome!

    This weekend: – Lunch with family – American Hustle with Marty – Snack bar volunteer at church – Family dinner on Sunday night – A bath everyday :)

    It looks like you had a great weekend too. That cheesecake looks delicious! Also, I want to try a BodyPump class again. I tried once and couldn’t make it through the 15 minutes of squats. Just not used to that type of workout. My legs were killing me for days! Eek.

      Nice! Sounds like an awesome weekend. I dont even know when the last time I took a relaxing bubble bath was… I need to get on that. And I totally understand. Bodypump is definitely intense the first few times, because it’s usually SO different for people. But I promise that once you figure out the best weights for you (given the insane number of reps) and the patterns, it gets easier. But it’ll still definitely kick your butt every time!

    I love restaurant week! This weekend I had a 1920′s themed martini party and a brunch-turned-club morning/afternoon with classmates.

    So glad to have today off to finish up all my homework though and to catch up on much needed sleep

      They introduced a bunch of new moves, and I’m not quite sure about them yet. And I didn’t think the abs track is NEARLY as hard as they usually are. I mean, the whole thing still kicked my butt, it’s just not my favorite launch ever. And oh no! What classes is your gym doing?

    I actually LOVE this new BodyPump release! I think the songs are great, and i love the combo (2 singles, down and hold, up slow) they do on a bunch of the tracks. I think the squat track and the chest track are my favorite

      I do love that combo (especially compared to the 4-8 bottom halves from the last few releases!), I think it was mostly the abs track that I was really disappointed in. Everything else I LIKED but didn’t LOVE.

      It was seriously delicious. Definitely not the healthiest concoction ever, but totally worth it!
