“We have Friends!” (and other weekend activities)

Aaaaaaand, we’re back to Monday! How is it that the weekend always goes by so quickly, and yet the workweek drags on!?! Must be one of those mysteries of science or something.

This weekend ended up being a pretty good one for me, actually. Even though it was quite busy and I really didn’t have a whole lot of time to relax. Sometimes it’s nice to have a super full weekend, as long as it’s super full of fun stuff, right?

Friday evening was basically the norm for us at this point. Every 2 weeks we host a young adults bible study at our house (for privacy sake, I didn’t take any pictures), where we have a bunch of people over for study and fellowship. It’s turned into a great group of people, and we always end up having people stick around to chat for awhile after bible study itself is officially over.

I know this sounds silly, but it’s been a great way for us to make friends since we moved here. Last winter we literally knew NO ONE in our area, and basically didn’t have any friends (as lame as that sounds) that lived close by. But since starting this group, we’ve made a ton of great friends and have actually stopped being total hermits! haha. This is success, people!

We had plans to sleep in early on Saturday morning, but sadly our foster dog had other plans and started barking around 7am. I guess he’s pretty used to being fed at the same time, and wanted to let us know that sleeping in was NOT ok in his book. We finally ended up getting up around 8 when we just couldn’t take the barking anymore!

I wanted to try something new for breakfast, so I whipped us up some pumpkin oatmeal with egg whites, maple syrup and pecans. Holy cow, not only was this guy DELICIOUS, but seriously kept me full until dinner time! I need to make these more often!

After breakfast I ended up going out with a friend who has been going through a rough time lately. We ended up walking around Fredericksburg for awhile, and checking out a few random local stores (including one that I think might be my new favorite place!) before heading over to a local coffee shop to sit and chat. We ended up hanging around for almost 4 hours! (You know you have good friends when you look at your phone and realize you’ve been talking for 4 hours and it barely feels like any time has passed!)

I ended up running home so that Chris and I could make a quick appearance at our neighbor’s 6th birthday party. Complete with moonbounce. You know you’re jealous!

Dinner ended up being something that I’ve had pinned on Pinterest for AGES: Pumpkin and ricotta stuffed shells. I’ve actually never made stuffed shells before, so this was a totally new adventure for me, but it actually ended up coming out quite well (although very messy!)

Sunday was a little bit different for us than normal! We actually headed to an early church service, as Chris and I were both playing the the handbell choir at one of the morning traditional services. Which meant that we got to meet up with some friends of ours (see, all these new friends!) at Moe’s for lunch afterwards.

Our friends kept joking about how we always manage to coordinate clothing, so here’s (very sunny) proof of our matching ability. Which I guess is better than when we both walk out of the closet and realize we’re wearing the same Virginia Tech shirt. Which happens WAY more often than it should…

After lunch, Chris and I spent some time putting up some decorations around the house that we’ve been putting off for awhile (because I’m a SUPER lazy decorator), and getting some chores done. Exciting things, right?

I also managed to get in a nice workout: Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 + Jillian Michaels Killer Abs make for a pretty intense combo! I swear, no matter how many times I do those workouts, they always manage to kick my butt!

I even ended up with a serious case of crazy workout hair. I guess that’s the nice thing about working out at home though – at least I’m not out in public looking like this!

The rest of the evening was spent working on a few craft projects. One of which is my halloween costume (we have a big halloween party at my job every year), which is about 1/3 done at this point. Any guesses as to what I’m going to be? (hint: despite the Maroon and Orange, it actually has nothing to do with Virginia Tech!)

That and catching  up with the million TV shows that are filling up our DVR. I don’t know how we always manage to get so behind!! Maybe it’s because we watch way too much TV in the fall…?

Nah. No such thing!

Well there you have it – my friend-filled weekend! I hope this week turns out to be just as fun as my weekend! I have a few fun things on the agenda which I’ll be able to share with you all soon!

So tell me: What did you do this weekend?

Saturday breakfast looks amazing! I’m glad you guys have met some new friends and are able to enjoy time with them. I know it’s always hard meeting new people when you move some place new.

That was definitely one of the hardest things for us when we moved to this area. Our neighborhood doesnt have a ton of young people, and our town doesnt have a lot of nightlife/has a lot of old people. haha. It was really a struggle just to meet people our own AGE, let alone find people we had stuff in common with!

It was really good – not too pumpkin-y, but just enough. It makes a TON though, just as a warning! You’ll be eating stuffed shells for days! haha.

I feel you on the DVR catch-up dilemma. I’m ready to just give up at this point!

It is easy to watch a ton of TV in the fall (with the weather getting dark much earlier!) We don’t have a TV but we do have HuluPlus and will watch New Girl, The Mindy Project, Saturday Night Live and Modern Family religiously! :) (I may also watch The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars when I’m home alone :) )
