Man, Mondays are rough! I don’t care how much sleep I get, getting up at 5:45 (or, you know, 6:00, after you hit for snooze button 3 times…), is really difficult. I clearly am not a morning person, and will probably never be one. I consider anything before 8:00am as “early”. All you 5am exercisers out there – I bow down to you. I’m so amazed.
That will never be me.
I’m the one that sleeps in an extra 15 minutes, and then spends the entire morning running around like a crazy person trying to get out the door on time. Like this morning. So let’s just go ahead and jump into the weekend recap, while I scarf my breakfast and try and figure out what I did with my shoes…
Friday was a bit of a busy day for me. Not only was work a little bit crazy (that’s what happens when the end of the fiscal year rolls around and everyone in the DC area goes nuts!), but I ended up having to leave early to make it back to Fredericksburg for a doctor’s appointment before traffic got too crazy. Which meant that work was smushed into 6 hours instead of 8!
But the benefit of getting home early was that I got to spend a little bit of time with this guy:
Yea, it’s been a little while. But there are a few things coming up that I need to audition for, so I decided that I should probably pull this baby back out and get reacquainted. And boy were my chops feeling it. Any fellow band dorks will recognize that feeling. It was a little rough. But definitely nice to be reunited once again. We used to be BEST buddies back in high school and college.
I also managed to put together a totally random dinner – chicken breasts stuffed with spinach, sundried tomatoes and laughing cow cheese, and mixed veggies on the side.
The rest of the evening was spent catching up on some fall TV shows that have just started back up (Bones, Castle, or Agents of SHIELD? Anyone?)
Apparently it was really exhausting…
We were up bright and early on Saturday morning to participate in a very special activity: The Alzheimer’s Walk.
Chris lost his grandmother a year ago today, so it was a very special and personal event. We met up with his family to walk together, and as a team Chris and his mom raised over $1,300. While I have been lucky to not have any family members with this horrible disease, it is definitely something that Chris’ family is far too familiar with. So I was really honored to be able to share in this event with them.
The puppies enjoyed it too!
After the walk I spent a few hours at PetSmart with Roscoe at an adoption event (Roscoe is our foster dog, for anyone new around here), so hopefully we’ll find him a good home.
I also had some shopping plans, and managed to drag Chris along with me to an epic shopping trip at Potomac Mills. I don’t go mall shopping very often, so when I do I try to make it worth my time. I managed to get some GREAT deals (including a free pair of pants, Thank you Gap Rewards Card points!). Chris’ treat for sitting through the whole thing? Cheesecake Factory!
We started with some Tex-Mex egg rolls, which were seriously delicious (even if they came out super hot and burned the crap out of my tongue!)
For my entrée, I ended up getting the White Chicken Chili off the Skinnylicious menu (eww, hate that name). It doesn’t look super appetizing, but it was seriously amazing! So full of veggies and chunks of chicken, and they were even able to sub brown rice for white rice!
We also left with a Red Velvet Cheesecake to go (I mean, you can’t go to cheesecake factory without getting a slice), but I was just way too full to eat it. Especially because we had more plans for the evening – hitting up Ocktoberfest in downtown Fredericksburg.
Ocktober fest is an event that is meant to mimic the big German celebrations. Basically, it’s a giant street festival full of giant bavarian pretzels, loud German music, and a TON of beer. And drunk people, by the time we got there.
And lots of people dressed up in totally ridiculous German costumes.
Whoops, caught! Actually, I’m pretty sure he was too drunk to notice…
By the time we got home, I literally passed out on the couch I was so pooped.
We slept in a little bit on Sunday morning, after such an exhausting Saturday. But we couldn’t sleep in TOO late, because we had a whole list of things to do!
First up was a workout, which was especially necessary after all that Cheesecake Factory food! I managed to do a 30 minute Jillian Michael’s Killer Buns and Thighs (ouch!), followed by 30 minutes Killer abs. Yea, they were both pretty killer alright.
I then headed out on a seriously epic grocery trip, that involved 4 different stores (Costco, Food Lion, Aldi and Giant). We are trying to cut down a little bit on our grocery spending, so we do our best to follow the ads and pay attention to sales. Which is great, until I end up driving all around Fredericksburg! haha. But it was worth it in the end, and I got some exercise in running around all of those stores like a crazy person on a time crunch. Which is pretty much what I was!
Finally, Sunday night involved out usual church service and dinner with Chris’ family. The usual.
There you have it – my super busy weekend! I swear, I love being home on the weekends, but sometimes they end up crazier than weekends away!
So tell me: What did you do this weekend? Are your weekends usually crazy?
