This has been one of those weeks where I’ve felt like I’m just SORE all week long.
Does this happen to anyone else? Where you have several days where you just feel like your muscles are reminding you just how hard your working?
It always seems to happen to me every time I start a new workout plan or routine. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I’ve been strength training in the meantime, whenever I actually start a new plan I spend that whole first week hobbling around like an old woman. Which I guess is good, because it just means that I’m finally working some muscles that I’ve apparently been neglecting.
But boy is it awkward to have to take 2 minutes to sit down in a chair because your glutes are hurtin’!
That’s what I’ve been feeling this week. I just started Phase 2 of an old Best Body Bootcamp workout plan, which I’m using while I try and figure out my next fitness plan, and boy am I feeling the burn! That’s definitely one thing I LOVE about Tina’s plans – every time you start to get comfortable, she totally throws a curve ball at you! In a good way, of course!
But one thing that I’ve been noticing as I look back on my workouts is that I seem to go through workout phases. There will be a couple of weeks where I LOVE working out my arms, but I absolutely dread leg day. Then a few weeks later, I’m all about the cardio. Then I’m back to loving legs. Anyone else like this?
One thing that’s been pretty consistent, however, is that I typically love working out my core. I don’t know why. Maybe because during my gymnastics days during college we spent a LOT of time doing core workouts, so it just became habit for me. But for whatever reason, I usually love it.
Except for recently. All of a sudden I’m anti-core and pro-arms and legs. And I’m even loving cardio (even with my half training making me do TONS of running). Just anti-core.
Take today for example, I started my workout with 40 minutes of intervals on the elliptical while catching up on some Runners World. Love that mag, btw. If you’re a runner, I definitely recommend checking it out.
But then I went to do some abs and just puttered around. Some sit ups here, some planks there. I just wasn’t feeling it. So I did what I could and left the gym feeling a little bummed.
The thing about my type-A personality, however, is that instead of giving up and just avoiding working on my core, I see it as a challenge. How can I make ab workouts exciting again?
So I did some research. was specifically looking for some moves that went beyond the normal “crunches, planks, sit-ups” kind of routine. And now I want to share it with you guys! Because maybe you’re like me and are feeling a little down on your core lately. Or are looking to add some new, fun moves to your routine. So here are a few ideas for you:
I hope that you find some of these moves helpful! I know that a lot of them were totally new to me, so I’m excited to bring them in to my routine. Hopefully I’ll start loving core workouts again!
So tell me: Do you ever go through phases and really dislike working out a certain area? What do you usually do? Do you have an ab workout you love?
