I don’t know what it looks like around where you guys are, but it is a super dreary Thursday around here. It’s just such a downer when you wake up to lots of rain and gloom. Definitely makes me want to stay in bed!
Especially after having a fairly late night! (I really need to get this going to bed late thing under control).
Yesterday as a whole was actually a pretty dull day, minus an impromptu work day trip with my boss to DC to check out a program. Nothing like sitting in 95S traffic, having a heart-to-heart with your boss!
But after work, the real fun began. I hopped in my car and headed BACK up to the DC area (Arlington/Crystal City to be exact) to meet up with some old college friends that I haven’t seen in awhile.
We met up for dinner at Jaleo, a Spanish Tapas restaurant, near the Crystal City Metro. While the food itself at Jaleo was good (it’s tapas, so it’s a bunch of little tiny portions), our waitress was TERRIBLE! We were just chatting and catching up, and took a little extra time to order. She finally walks up to us and says “I mean, it’s not that hard. The menu is in English, and we have all the normal stuff: chicken, pork, cheese…”
Umm, excuse you?
So minus the waitress (who just went downhill from there, btw), it was a great few hours getting to catch up with the girls.
Current and Future Workout Plans
I did want to spend a few minutes today talking about my current workout plans, and some future options. Just because I’m a type A planner kind of person and I’m thinking some of you might be that way too!
Running – Since I’m currently training for a half marathon in mid-September, running is definitely a high priority for me right now. The slightly-modified Hal Higdon training plan we’re following has us running 3 days a week (1 speed run, 1 pace run, and 1 long run)
Strength Training – I still like to include strength training into my routine, because I can seriously tell a difference in my body when I don’t. Plus I just really love it. So for the time being, I think I’m going to continue what I’ve been doing for the last few weeks, and re-doing an old Best Body Bootcamp 8-week program.
I love BBB because it totally caters to my ADD kind of workout style, because Tina keeps things constantly changing. You only have to repeat a workout twice during the entire 8 weeks, and even then style of workouts change every 2 weeks (supersets to circuits, etc). I’ve had great results doing this program in the past before my wedding, so I know it’ll be a great way to keep up my strength training in the meantime.
Running – I definitely think we’re going to keep up running and sign up for some more races. We definitely learned the hard way when we started training for this half that we can’t let our running base lapse as much as it did between our last half in January and June when our training started. So while we may not run as often or as hardcore as now, we definitely want to keep up a decent running base.
Strength training – As I said, I definitely enjoy strength training probably more than anything else. But I haven’t quite decided what I want to do about a plan. I know that BBB is opening up another round in the fall, so that’s always a possibility. I’ve also heard good things about some other plans (such as Jamie Eason’s LiveFit trainer) that would be fun to try out. Anyone else know of any other good options? I’m open to suggestions!
New Challenges – One of the biggest things is that I want to find some new challenges in my workout routine. I hate when workouts or routines get stale, and I firmly believe in changing things up sometimes!
But I’m not quite sure what the challenge will be. Try out a yoga studio (a new one just opened in my area)? Try out Crossfit (Chris is really voting for this option)? Try a new kind of race, like a sprint triathlon? I’m not really sure yet – there are too many options out there!
I’d love to hear your opinion on your current and future workout plans, and what kind of fun new workout challenges you can think of!
So tell me: What does your current workout routine consist of? What workout challenges do you want to try out sometime?
